Langham Village Hall | Acoustic Panelling

—  Langham Community Centre

Canterbury bat

Brief

The Community Hall was suffering from high levels of reverberation which made social evenings uncomfortable and conversations difficult to understand.

dBC were to assess the acoustics of the hall and provide a suitable solution which met a variety of user requirements including many social events and the use of AV equipment.

dBA were then to supply and install the solution within a suitable timeframe so as not to disrupt the social calendar.

Assessment

dBC were engaged to carry out reverberation RT60 tests within the hall to evaluate the acoustic performance of the hall and offer a suitable solution.

The design offered bespoke sized panels to provide both an acoustic solution and an aesthetic blend to the hall.

Complications included a redundant under floor heating system so great care needed to taken over specification of access equipment.

Solution

Careful measurement of the premises meant that panels could be cut accurately to suit. The panels were painted to a RAL colour specified by the client to match the existing décor.

Towers were carefully selected to distribute weights, protect the wood flooring and provide sufficient access to the very narrow ceiling apex. The large 2.4m x 1.2m Ecophon panels needed lifted into place and fitted with great care as these could be damaged easily.

Planning of the installation meant that we installed the entire solution in just four days.

dBC will return to site for a second RT60 assessment to evaluate the performance of the installation and product.
