On September 13th, dB Attenuation instituted for the first time a Safety Stand-down day. During this day, we held a training seminar, on the topic of Communication.
It was found during an anonymous feedback survey for the staff that it was felt that inter-department communication could be improved and information could be more readily available. In response to the request, we held a company wide safety stand-down day, along with our colleagues at dB Consultation, to include a seminar on communication. Allstar training provided us a trainer, Dan Cocksedge, with an interesting, interactive and thought provoking learning session and backed up the theory with some group activities.
We started with a small presentation by the managing director detailing the history and growth of the company over the last 23 years, where we are currently, and the projected future projects and work going to 2030 and beyond!
We then broke out into groups, split as evenly as possible for the most cross-linking of departments, and learned (with some activities to re-enforce the point) about some of the challenges about communication, as it is not just about what information you provide, but also about what information they receive! Different personality types send and receive information in ways that can be challenging with other personality types. Also, our previous experiences and preconceptions can affect our abilities to understand the information we receive.
With the help of a few of the leaders of the XVII Colchester Sea Scout Group, we finished off the day with some fun on the water: motoring out to Radio Caroline, anchored in a local backwater! You can see from all our smiling faces that it was a great time had by all!
